Message From Michaëlle Jean
When I was named Governor General of Canada , I made a commitment to bring Canadians together in solidarity. It was in that spirit that I created my motto: “Breaking down solitudes”. I think it is essential to give those who are not always heard a chance to speak out. I am referring to you, our children and young people, in particular. We must learn to get to know each other better and to share our perspectives on life as we know it.
That is why I am pleased to support the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa, which is committed to protecting you from all forms of abuse and neglect. We share a desire to find solutions so that no one is left in isolation or reduced to silence. We want to know that you are safe. We want you to have everything you need to grow and attain your full potential.
In my travels across this country, I have met with young people just like you who overcome adversity and accomplish extraordinary things. You have shown me in so many ways that when we work together, anything is possible. The boldness and determination that I know each of you possesses strengthens my conviction that you are today's real leaders and that the future is truly in your hands.
The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa and I recognize your courage in the face of painful situations. We also admire your ability to take hold of your dreams. It is our job to support you in this journey, wholeheartedly and by any means. You can count on us.
